The purpose of this web site is to tell the story of my brother, Larkin Forney and to help make the public aware of the incidence of T.B.I. (Traumatic Brain Injury) in our society and the devastation that it and lack of treatment causes to the injured and their loved-ones.  In the United States, one person every 21 minutes sustains a TBI and the resulting effects are as varied as the individuals who receive it.

The medical care and resources that are available are extremely limited due to low number of facilities that actually address the issue and the high cost of the care they give.  In VT there are some private brain injury centers, but they will not admit those who are involved with the law and also many insurance companies will not pay for this type of treatment.  I believe that more resources and technology need to be made available for those who are brain injured.    The human body and brain will heal greatly  when given the right care.

Most persons with TBI end up involved with the law due to behavioral changes and lack of care and compassion given to understand and help with the behavior.  Most persons on death row have at some point sustained a TBI in their life.

75-80% of women inmates have sustained a TBI mostly due to domestic violence. So, after being abused by someone and being severely injured, our society feels that the best treatment is to punish her subsequent behaviors.  This is not justice for these women or their families.

My brothers hope is that by sharing his story, he can help others who are coping with symptoms of their traumatic brain injury and also help the public to realize that love, care compassion and time need to be given to help a person recover and live their lives as best they can.   Mistreatment and punishment by society only create more problems and tragedy.
